²⁸ So all Israel^(A) brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouts,^(B) with the sounding of rams’ horns^(C) and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps.

¹² They entered into a covenant^(A) to seek the Lord,^(B) the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul. ¹³ All who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, were to be put to death,^(C) whether small or great, man or woman. ¹⁴ They took an oath to the Lord with loud acclamation, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.

¹¹ With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord:

And all the people gave a great shout^(B) of praise to the Lord, because the foundation^(C) of the house of the Lord was laid. ¹² But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple,^(D) wept^(E) aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. ¹³ No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy^(F) from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.
